I been in a wheelchair for 50 years. Paraplegic T12/L1. I use to be able to get sideways to things and the bath tub transfer for the to of the chair to a cushion on the bottom of the tub. Then leave the water in the tub and lift myself back in chair with one motion. You are young like me and I could do all that stuff. As you get older you will hurt your shoulder and such that when you loose muscle mass and break bones. You need to cath in your wheelchair and do you bowl programs in bed . Once you break a leg or get a pressure sore you will learn easyer ways. Been there done that. I even drag race for 20 years after I got hurt. I wore down and my shoulders paid the price. Try and get a eletric wheelchair ASAP. They are replacable your shoulder are not.

Ha - first time out trialling a wheelchair in the mall and I had someone come up to me and ask what was wrong with me (MS), and then, could they pray for me. I so wish I had answered "nothing's wrong with me, what's wrong with you asking this of a stranger" but I was just gobsmacked by the weirdness of it all (needless to say I politely declined the prayer session)

Its also difficult for mental disabilities that dont have physical signs. Especially for adults. People get really angry about non standard behavior when theres no visible proof that there is a disability. But yeah, wheelchairs too. Peoples faces when somebody in a wheelchair stands up. Even worse when that person actually starts walking unassisted. So judgy.

I put together a chair from secondhand stuff on ebay with big fat offroad tires and a really small tilite frame, it's been amazing to be able to face hills and tough terrain and inspires me to try to learn as much as I can to maneuver these wheels and kick ass with them! But learning the badass moves means taking tumbles. Today I tipped over backwards and hit the ground HARD. Yesterday I was doing great down a grassy hill when my caster hit a hole and I went flying sideways. Thank you for showing the spills as well as the amazing rides. It was cool to see you trying those tricks with folks there on your sides. I never thought about asking for help and having a friend spot me. Thanks for these videos

I am 55 and grew up in and out of a wheelchair, some of my time in the my early years things were realy bad because I could not do anything on my own, my arms and legs were effected by a car accident where my mothers car was hit and it messed my neck up, when I was 14 my back was due to a fall and again 2 more times years later. Right now I am able to walk some days on my own but looking at one more bad fall and losing use of one leg or both, a fall 10 months ago sent me back to the surgeons and therapy, no surgery just therapy and an injection to cushion my spinal cord and hope for the best, the scarring around the breaks and mis-aligned spine they say surgery now will do more damage and lose the little feeling I have and lose what little control I do have of my left leg. Growing uo how I did I do not have the same feelings of going out in public, for me it was normal to see someone in a wheelchair growing up and the same now, I see a person not their disability.

I got my first wheelchair today and was using it on my own. I got down a crosswalk curb onto the road but then I couldn‘t get up the other side and it was honestly terrifying, because I didn‘t know what to do and there were cars coming. Thankfully a trucker on the other side of the road saw me and immediately jumped down to help me, but i‘m now really unsure going outside which sucks. So thank you for this video 😊

I had a fall 3 years ago approximately 6 months after taking early retirement (54). Nothing as severe as your fall but my disc were already degenerative before the fall. Somehow it damaged my spine, unfortunately I have been unable to investigate too much because of my insurance restrictions because of the pre existing disc problem. Anyway I became paralysed after spending a month in a caste. Currently in hospital 5.5 months and counting due to infected ulcers on my arse because I was confined to a wooden chair for 2.5 years. Long story. Anyway since being in hospital I’ve found your UA-cam channel and it’s inspired me to make a real life for myself despite the wheelchair. Once I get out of here I’m determined to live a better life for me and my wife! I will look into the possibility of walking again in the future but even if I can I’m not going just sit in my wheelchair playing the invalid for the rest of my life. I’ve started using resistance bands and dumbbells in hospital to start to regain strength in my upper body after my illness, 5 months is a long time laying in bed. I’m eager to try to get some muscle and strength back into my withered legs too! But the reason for the comment is to say thank you for the inspiration for me to become a better version of myself!

God love ''em, but it isn't the same. What you conveyed is so much more valuable. I will be watching more.

Well I'm not in your situation, I'm a epilepsy patient and have been under the care of a few neurologists now I'll be the first to straight up admit that I'm not psychically restricted however, I'll readily admit that at first I was crest fallen when I was originally diagnosed as an epileptic. While I have to confront my epilepsy on a daily basis however, in the recent years I've been stable on a trifecta of anti consultants.

I can walk but I do have a mild case of cerebral Palsy and technically I am a hemiplegic that means that My right side from the top of my head down to the bottom of my foot the CP affects my coordination and balance and my hand eye coordination... Also I have Rheumatoid arthritis and SLE lupus as well, I can walk as I said But not for long stretches and because of the Ra I have In my ankles I can't stand for very long because it will give out on me... The doctors explained to My parents that probably by the time I turned 40 that I would not have enough muscle mass in my leg to standing... Monday 6/10/65, I will be 59, and while I can walk but I can see the need one now because I have been house bound for 2yrs Now...

Sir I have questions about wheelchairs I made comments on your pages, right now I am kinda like you I can still Walk but as I stated I have Rheumatoid arthritis, SLE Lupus, and very mild case of cerebral Palsy, the doctors specifically told my parents that I would never Walk on my own, cuz of the Cp from the age of 3 or 4 years old told my doctors I know when or how but I will Walk out these fuugly shoes @ the Shriners Hospital In Big D.. 3weeks before I turned 15, I took My first steps I was walking unto parallel bars ( hanging on them) In a few days I'll be 59! But these doctors also stated that by the time I turn 40 yrs old I will be In a wheelchair cuz I wouldn't have enough muscle mass to remain walking... The RA and the lupus leaves me fatigued, my doctors now tell me that exercising goes like swimming, walking, and yoga, thi chi and that's it. How can I the physical strength built back up without doing further damage to my joints, Ohh yeah I forgot about the bicycle riding.. Thank you for your help and guidance and consideration Respectfully yours, Donna Lane Kingman Az USA ❤❤❤❤😂😂😂

No one truly understands the mundane things that they take for granted each day. Simple things that they can do all the time, when you are disabled you literally have to completely rebuild your life around your disability so that you can maintain a independent lifestyle..

My sister's goddaughter has a little boy (three years old this month). When I first got a wheelchair, J was afraid of how he'd react when he was used to seeing me walking or in a hospital bed. I was afraid the wheelchair would frighten him or make him see me differently. The first time he saw me in it, his whole face lit up. He loves anything with wheels. We had a race, which he won in his buggy. First time I had laughed in a long time. My new, all terrain wheelchair arrived today. Looking forward to showing little Jude my new wheels.

If I can do this in this gaint 22” seat heavy asf rehab hospital WC I can wait till I get my rove or personal wc carbon steel etc, so actually learning it in this old Goliath beast I’ll kill it in my personalized chair. 🧑🏽‍🦽‍➡️ Looking 4ward 2 my Power chair too 🧑🏽‍🦼‍➡️ Going to put a padded mat behind me & trying practicing balancing on this Goliath beast tomorrow in the gym 🤞🤞

Yeah, I have MS. I can walk with a cane on most normal surfaces. I wanted to start swimming at the YMCA. However, walking with a cane on the slick tile and concreate surface from the showers to the pool was too dangerous to use a cane. So, started using a wheelchair in the pool area.

But now I know that just because you can still stand and walk, it doesn't mean you can maintain the stamina to stand or walk for sustained periods.
